Why? Because if they are in the capped rental payment category, then a KH is required in the first month. When billing rental repair parts that are capped, remember to use the KH modifier. Many common repair parts such as motors and joysticks are STILL in the capped rental payment category. However, as of Oct 1, 2016, they are paid on a lump sum basis, regardless of the base code they are going on (complex rehab AND non-complex rehab).
To determine if a part (code) is in the capped rental payment category, go to https://www.dmepdac.com/dmecsapp/do/search. Once you are there, enter the code in “Search for Fee Schedule.” Once you have entered the code, look near the top of the page for “Fee Schedule Category.” If it is a capped rental, then you need the KH Modifier.
