Packer Perspective: Manual Wheelchair Accessory Legislation Introduced

Team, it is our time. HR 3730 was recently introduced by Reps. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) and John Larson (D-Conn.) to stop the application of competitive bid rates on CRT manual wheelchairs. This legislation was not included on our previous CRT bill that was passed. This bill will give the accessories on CRT manual wheelchairs the same consideration that we have with CRT power. The legislation currently has 42 bipartisan cosponsors. The list of current cosponsors can be found here.

We know that manual or power users should have the same access and should not be discriminated against just because of a lower level injury. Manual users still need the same customized fitting and handling that is required on any CRT power chair. We know this; now we have to make it known to our congressional representatives to get this passed. We are looking to have a Senate companion bill in the near future and will update you when it goes out.

Please take the time to call your congressional office, and ask your member of congress to support and sign on as a cosponsor of this necessary legislation. You can visit the VGM Government Relations website to find contact information or to send a message your representative.

Please remember, VGM and U.S. Rehab are here to help you and your patients. Make sure you make the call to each of your members of Congress.
